Wyndham Simplifies Breakfast Requirements for Economy Brands

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is extending its relief measures to franchisees by reducing breakfast requirements for its economy brands. These changes aim to “substantially” reduce breakfast costs for budget owners. The New Economy Breakfast Guidelines build on previous Wyndham franchisees relief measures that began in March 2020 and included multiple fee exemptions and extensions, as well as access to cleaning supplies and hospital-grade safety at discounted prices when these items were hard to find at the start of the pandemic.

“We have always taken an owner-centered approach to supporting our hotels,” said Scott LePage, President, Americas, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “Since the start of the pandemic, we have been working alongside our franchisees to help them improve their health, safety and service protocols to meet the expectations of today’s customers, and we are continually looking for more ways to help them. Over the past two decades, the creeping cost of a free breakfast has impacted hotel profitability, especially in the economy segment. The changes we announced this week are based on plenty of feedback from our owners, franchise advisory boards, and most importantly, the guests we polled on what they value most about their stay. These are changes that will help our owners reduce their operational costs while allowing them to continue to meet our safety initiatives and brand standards. “

Simpler options, lower costs

For hotels over 3,000 Days Inn by Wyndham, Howard Johnson by Wyndham, and Super 8 by Wyndham in the United States, the new breakfast requirements, which take effect July 1, have been streamlined to include enhanced coffee and juice drinks, plus a prepackaged food like a granola bar or breakfast pastry. Travelodge by Wyndham will continue to offer 24-hour beverage service.

For the Microtel by Wyndham, as well as its mid-range and high-end brands, Wyndham evaluates breakfast options with a similar goal of cutting costs while maintaining guest satisfaction. Current COVID-related breakfast restrictions remain in place for these hotels.

Wyndham will monitor customer feedback regarding the changes and be ready to make any necessary adjustments. Hotels wishing to offer a more generous breakfast can adjust their breakfast offerings to their liking.
