Puneet Chhatwal re-elected President of Hotel Association of India


NEW DELHI : The Hotel Association of India (HAI), an Indian hospitality industry body, following its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) has decided to re-elect Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of The Indian Hotels Company Ltd, who runs Taj Hotels, like its president.

The association said the team also includes KB Kachru as vice-president. Kachru is Chairman Emeritus and Senior Advisor, South Asia for Radisson Hotel Group, JK Mohanty (Honorary Secretary) Managing Director, Swosti Premium Limited, Patanjali Keswani (Honorary Treasurer) Chairman and Managing Director Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd. and will continue to lead the Association throughout his tenure until 2023.

Rupak Gupta, Managing Director, UP Hotels Ltd., and Surinder Singh, Regional Manager, IHC Ltd. will be the two newly elected committee members. While Gupta will review HAI member hotels in the 5-star luxury and 5-star category, hotels in the ministry’s classification categories of 3 and 4 stars would be represented by Singh.

Secretary General MP Bezbaruah said the continuity will strengthen the association’s many new initiatives to strongly express industry interest. The association previously met with Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy with a single-point agenda to reiterate its demand to grant hotels “infrastructure” status. The ministry has recognized the industry’s long-standing demand and has recently begun a dialogue to address it.
