Proper Hospitality Announces Management and Operation of Historic Culver Hotel Under Collective Family of Brands and Properties

Proper Hospitality today announces the addition of the iconic Culver Hotel to Collective – a growing portfolio of independent, design-driven boutique hotels managed and operated by the Los Angeles-based hotel group.

Located in the heart of downtown Culver City, the Culver Hotel is a National Monument iron-clad building that opened in 1924 after being designed by architects Curlett & Beelman – the pioneer of lavish architecture City Fine Arts – and city visionary founder Harry H. Culver.

In 2007, the property was acquired and redesigned by hotelier Maya Mallick who carefully restored the 46-room boutique hotel taking inspiration from the building’s rich history, distinct 1920s elegance and a passion for vintage. The European decor and vibe found throughout reflects an artsy and romantic approach, with its rooms and event spaces layering a happy pastiche of deep colors, rich textures, classic design pieces, and rare vintage furniture. The creative spirit of the hotel includes an in-house art gallery with works by established and emerging local talent.

Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of reinventing and reviving a beautiful piece of history, and creating an artistic and living work destination in Los Angeles. I look forward to continuing the magic, with Proper Hospitality, as we approach our 2024 centenary, said Maya Mallick, owner and creative director of The Culver Hotel.

Today, The Culver Hotel continues to act as an enchanting community gathering place and a neighborhood beacon for the new energy running through downtown Culver City, as it is conveniently located next to The Culver Steps, The Culver Studios, Amazon Studios and within walking distance to a vibrant mix of dining, shopping and entertainment destinations. As part of its reopening, the establishment meets the bustling energy of its neighborhood with a new bistro and garden on site by Lillienamed after Lillian, the wife of Harry Culver, which takes shape in three distinct spaces within the property – the great hall, the dining room and the outdoor garden.

Grounded in a sense of place, the menu, led by Proper Hospitality’s culinary team and Executive Culinary Director Ned Elliott, reflects a thoughtful blend of modern French cuisine and California’s seasonal bounty. Working closely with Los Angeles-based farmers and growers, the evolving menu includes an extensive raw bar program; classic and specialty cocktails; and a focus on natural and biodynamic wines. The menu mixes classic dishes like steak frites, grilled whole branzino and French onion soup with standout signatures such as the Grand Aioli which combines poached prawns with a rich saffron aioli, roasted sea scallops Amandine , chilled Maine lobster and a luxurious comforting chicken dinner. for two.

Further underscoring the property’s dedication to curated cultural programming, the introduction of Lillie’s will be accompanied by the expected return of the property’s live music lineup – an element of European café culture that hotel guests and the community have enjoyed over the past decade. Later this fall, The Culver Hotel will reopen its speakeasy bar and private lounge for the most intimate experiences.

With an array of all-day dining options, vibrant programming, signature amenities, a modern exercise room, and over 5,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, the hotel Culver continues to be a timeless and luxurious destination for guests, and locals experience an authentic and distinctly Hollywood story through diverse touchpoints, warm hospitality and a tailored approach to every occasion.
