Tripoli, 25 January 2022:

A roundtable on public-private partnership (PPP) held yesterday at the Four Points Andalous Hotel under the auspices of the Minister of State for Economic Affairs and in cooperation with the Libyan Business Council (LBC) formulated several recommendations, reports the LBC.

The event brought together several academic experts, business owners, representatives of government and private institutions, as well as economic and financial personalities.

The discussion highlighted that PPP is one of the pillars on which to rely and implement sustainable development plans as it stimulates economic growth and solves the problem of finding financing to implement the necessary projects.

The participants discussed the best ways to achieve a real and effective partnership, the difficulties that stand before it and the solutions needed to start implementing projects of a strategic nature.

The meeting concluded several recommendations on the subject, the most important of which were:

  • Define the characteristics of the development objectives sought from the process of partnership between the public and private sectors, not only in terms of economics or development and improvement of the performance of public services, but in terms of development impact and a partnership relationship with urban modernization adapted to the needs of the population.
  • Build the general foundations which, in turn, determine the role of development partners in order to achieve efficiency, integration and good coordination between the two sectors.
  • The application of the market economy, the modernization of the economic system and a prelude to attract direct and indirect foreign investments and mobilize them in the field of service projects.
  • Creation of an independent body with the direct support of the State that works on the regulation of partnership relations and participation projects between the public and private sectors.
