New fintech start-up on Sunday lets restaurateurs pay in 10 seconds with £ 14.5m in funding

Big Mamma founders partnered with Christine de Wendel to raise € 20m (nearly £ 14.5m) in seed funding from Coatue and New Wave, with additional support from numerous hotel investors established who have helped fund Big Mamma and other hotels and restaurants around the world. This will be used to support the launch of a new innovative fintech start-up called Sunday.

Payments at the restaurant in 10 seconds!

The new payment method, Sunday, is designed to allow customers to pay in less than 10 seconds. This new payment technology will benefit both restaurants and customers by creating a smoother process for restaurateurs, staff and customers. It will be deployed simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic, notably in the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain and France. The goal of this payment technology is to make the physical restaurant experience as easy and fast as it is online.

With the new Sunday tool, the company will fight the millions of hours that are wasted on bill payments every day. It was created by the three founders and a team of over thirty restaurants and tech enthusiasts and allows customers to pay the bill in just 10 seconds using a QR code. This way, restaurateurs and staff will have time to focus on their main mission: to create an incredible experience for their customers.

“It’s simple: we do better for less. For the customer, it’s great and for the restaurateur and his staff, it’s great and profitable, ”said Christine de Wendel, co-founder and CEO of SUNDAY in the United States.

“The end of a meal can often be ‘decisive’ in the experience of a restaurant owner. No matter how well you greet, the quality of your food, or your friendly and efficient service, if payment becomes lengthy or uncomfortable, the memory lingers. Your staff will have more time to serve and your customers will more easily be able to show their appreciation – Sunday is a win-win, ”said Jeremy King, CEO of Corbin & King.

“We are very happy to have restaurant and hotel owners and funds on board who share our ambition to make payments simpler and cheaper around the world,” said Victor Lugger, co-founder and CEO of SUNDAY.

Seeks rapid global expansion

Already, Big Mamma launched a similar solution in 14 restaurants worldwide last year as the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the hospitality industry. It has won the success and approval of customers. Data revealed that each table could save 15 minutes of wait time on average while waiters got 40% more tips, among other improvements.

Sunday plans to conquer the hospitality industry globally with rapid expansions in the UK, Europe (Spain and France) and the US. Sunday will be available in the restaurant for Big Mamma groups around the world with the launch of Circolo Popolare and Gloria in the UK. The payment solution will be implemented in thousands of restaurants, including Hoxton, JKS Groups, Hoppers, Brigadiers, Gymkhana, Flors and Corbyn & King, The Wolseley, Bellanger, Colbert, Zedel and many more. Rapid deployment made possible by connection with major US and European payment systems such as Oracle Micros, Brinks, Tiller, Zelty, Revo, CashPad and dozens of others.
