The Veriu Group recently opened its Punthill Maitland project, the company’s first Punthill property in the New South Wales region.
Developed by Panthera Group, the property is located at 373 High Street, Maitland, approximately two hours north of Sydney.
The property will be the first hotel brand scheduled to open in the NSW regional city in more than a decade, Veriu said in a press release. Veriu also said the Maitland ownership was the start of its NSW regional expansion plan for the Punthill apartment hotel accommodation model.
“The Upper Hunter Valley has long been a key destination for business and leisure travelers. But we also know that in a post-pandemic world, both groups now want to travel differently,” said Veriu CEO Zed Sanjana.
“From a business travel perspective, the region features a wide diversity of industries, including energy, construction, government and healthcare, which are key drivers of the economy.
“Demand from these industries has translated into a growing demand for high-end self-contained accommodations for extended stays where guests can combine the benefits of business facilities with all the comforts of home.”
The Hunter Valley property is also expected to meet the changing needs of leisure travel:
“For vacationers, the situation is still slightly different. We know that there are a record number of people on vacation in the country.
“People are more inclined to want to travel closer to home and explore their own country, which has seen a huge boom in regional accommodation over the past few years compared to international which has become much more expensive.
“Certainly, the Hunter’s popularity as a tourist destination shows no signs of slowing down.”
Construction on Punthill Maitland is now underway, with the property expected to open in late 2023. Located in the heart of Maitland’s High Street shopping centre, the 76-key apartment hotel will include conference facilities, a gymnasium and a cafe, and will cater to both the business and leisure travel market.
