Industry body to hotels and restaurants in this city

An industry association has asked hotels and restaurants in the city of Ahmedabad to deny entry to customers who have not even taken a single dose of the coronavirus vaccine, the PTI news agency reported on Thursday.

It comes just days after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) decided to ban unvaccinated people from using public transport and entering public buildings.

Gujarat Hotel and Restaurant Association president Narendra Somani in a statement called on his approximately 4,000 members in the city not to allow customers who have not taken a single dose of the vaccine.

He also asked members to deny entry to those who did not take the second dose when they were eligible after taking the first jab. “As we all know, the holiday and wedding season is coming soon, according to the report.

Somani said if the third wave of Covid arrives during the same period, their business will be shut down again as the government may consider imposing a lockdown. “Therefore, it is in our best interest to support the AMC and its ongoing vaccination campaign,” he said.

There are around 4,000 restaurants and hotels in the city of Ahmedabad and a total of 15,000 in Gujarat.

The municipality recently made it compulsory to produce a vaccination certificate for access to public transport and other municipal amenities such as swimming pools and the Sabarmati riverbank.

Jignesh Patel, director of parks and gardens, AMC said on Monday that anyone over the age of 18 must have a physical Covid vaccination certificate or an electronic copy in their mobile and that these certificates will be verified at the entrance to the facilities.

“Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services (AMTS), Rapid Bus Transit System, Kankaria Lake Shore, Riverside, Libraries, Gyms, Sports Complex, Swimming Pool, Civic Center of the city are closed to unvaccinated people, ”he said.
