A hotel manager, Emmanuel Idoga, dragged Lobi Stars FC management to a court in the upper Makurdi region on Wednesday over an alleged hotel debt of N516,000.
Idoga, who manages Dozat Jen Villa, Makurdi and represented by his lawyer, Unongo Unongo, claimed that all efforts to recover the money had failed.
Unongo claimed that his client was the manager and operator of Dozat Jen Villa Makurdi, a hotel establishment where the defendant stayed and refused to pay.
He said the players stayed at the hotel between March 16 and March 17, 2020.
The lawyer added that three players from the team also spent two months at the hotel without making any payment.
He further claimed to have written a series of letters to the defendant.
“My client sent the first letter on June 29, 2021, but there was no response,” he said.
Unongo also said that during the hearing he will rely on the letter dated June 29, 2021, which was served on the defendant.
He urged the court to order the defendant to pay the 516,000 naira.
He also prayed for 1 million naira as general damages, 50,000 naira as filing costs and any orders the court deems appropriate.
Counsel alleged that the defendant was evading service and requested substituted service from the defendant.
The magistrate, Dooshima Ikpambese, in his decision, ordered substituted service of the accused.
“Court records reveal that attempts to serve the accused personally on June 14 and 15 were unsuccessful.
“As a result, an order for substituted service is granted.
“The defendant will be served by pasting the Court Orders, Summons, Notices of Hearing and all other subsequent processes of this court at the entrance of McCarty Wadata Stadium, Makurdi and Aper Aku Stadium Makurdi and front gate from Upper 2, Makurdi,” she argued.
Ikpambese then adjourned the case until July 11 for a new mention.
