Azul Hospitality Group adds COO
Azul Hospitality Group, a leading hospitality company offering innovative approaches to maximize an asset’s performance, has revealed that Alvaro Fraile will join the company as COO. Fraile will report directly to Azul President / CEO Rick Mansur.
Fraile joins Azul from Marriott International, where he most recently served as vice president of franchise operations. He was instrumental in launching AC Hotels by Marriott in the United States due to his extensive experience and knowledge of the brand. Prior to joining Marriott in the United States, he held a number of senior operational positions in Spain at AC Hotels. Fraile holds a Business Administration degree from the University of Richmond, Virginia, and an MBA from Instituto de Empresa, Madrid, Spain.
Doug Lieber, co-founder / COO of Azul since the inception of the company, will move on to the role of Director of Talent. He will ensure that Azul continues to attract the best talent in the hospitality industry.
Marcus Hotels & Resorts promotes SVP, operations
Marcus Hotels & Resorts, nationally recognized owner and management company and a division of The Marcus Corporation, has promoted Steve Hilton to senior vice president of operations. In his new role, Hilton will be responsible for leading and overseeing the operations of the properties in the Marcus Hotels & Resorts portfolio, including the development and implementation of new systems, talent development and community engagement. Hilton was previously the general manager of the company’s Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District hotel.
Hilton joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2016 as General Manager of Omaha Marriott Downtown in the Capitol District before it opened as a new full-service hotel. He has led the property to many successes including being named Marriott International ‘Hotel of the Year’ in 2019. He was promoted to General Manager of the property in 2020. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Hilton was general manager of several hotels across the country.
Hilton received an associate’s degree in hospitality management from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has also received numerous industry awards for his leadership and real estate success. These awards include the Hilton Connie Award, the Embassy Suites Make a Difference Award, and the Alice S. Marriott Community Service Award.
Newmark Expands Hotel Capital Markets Practice with New Hires and Locations
Newmark Group Inc. has expanded its Lodging Capital Markets group with two new hires and the relocation of two Newmark professionals. With these moves, the group established three new locations in California, South Florida and Texas. New hires include Nick Pappas, a Los Angeles-based senior general manager, and Parker Sherrill, a Dallas-based director. Lawrence Wolfe, one of the four co-heads of Newmark’s Lodging Capital Markets Group, is moving to Miami from New York and Director Greg Morgan is moving to Los Angeles from Washington, DC.
With approximately $ 4.5 billion in hotel transactions currently under contract or in the market, this geographic expansion will further consolidate Newmark’s Lodging Capital Markets Group as one of the leading platforms nationwide.
Pappas joins Newmark from Canyon Partners and will team up with Morgan in the Los Angeles office. Both will focus on California, the Pacific Northwest and the mountain region. Sherrill, who joins Newmark from JLL (and previously HFF), will focus on Texas and the Southwest region. Wolfe, who originally helped establish Newmark’s hosting business with Etra, Mark Schoenholtz, and Miles Spencer in 2018, will focus on Florida and the Southeast, while continuing to work on highly-rated transactions. media coverage of the platform across the country.
