The beach cleans

Arklow Coastcare, with the help of volunteers from Sunbeam House and the National Learning Centre, cleans Arklow South Beach every Thursday lunchtime starting at 1.30pm. All are welcome.

Support for cancer patients

Arklow Cancer Support offers face-to-face or remote counseling for cancer patients or their family members. It also offers bereavement counselling, and its volunteers drive patients for their daily radiation therapy.

If you wish to participate in the group meetings, you can do so any Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.

MS Support Group

The Arklow MS Support Group meets Thursdays at 11 a.m. for coffee and a chat at the Arklow Bay Hotel or a Zoom call each Friday at 11 a.m.

Arklow Bridge Club invites guests to join them for live bridge on Tuesdays at 7.15pm in the Presbyterian Church, Dublin Road. This invitation extends for the summer months.

All levels of bridge players are welcome.

My Open Library has resumed, meaning those with MOL access cards have access to the library from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Support for young mothers

La Leche League Arklow meets in person on the third Tuesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at May Byrne Trust House in Coolgreany.

There is also a Zoom meeting at 8:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Parkrun junior

Arklow Junior Parkrun takes place every Sunday morning at 9:30am at Duck Pond.

This is a 2 km event reserved for juniors, aged 4 to 14 years.

Growing up

Grow Mental Health’s Arklow Community Group holds in-person meetings at a new location each week on Mondays at 10 a.m. at the Arus Lorcan Community Center in Castle Park.

Everyone is welcome to attend meetings that will explore positive mental health, wellness and recovery. Meetings are free.

Tidy cities

Arklow Tidy Town’s mission is to enhance the landscape of Arklow Town for residents and visitors.

They meet every Tuesday in season to carry out various projects in the town.

Their CE program performs daily essential landscape maintenance and litter control throughout the city.

Golden Circle Social Outing

The Golden Circle social group is open to members of all ages from Arklow and the surrounding area.

The Golden Circle Social Group Committee is beginning to plan trips and events for later this year.

A holiday to Sligo is planned for October 2-6. Contact Gertie on 083 4042746. The group will travel to the National Plowing Championship on September 20, with the bus leaving from Tesco at 8am.

The price is €20 for the bus ticket at the door. All payments must be paid the first week of September.

Family fun at the library

The Arklow Library hosts Family Fun Time every Saturday starting at 11 a.m. with stories, crafts, and puzzles.

There’s also story time at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and the Movie Club for ages 3 and up at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays.

‘Let’s Sing’ to Arus Lorcain

‘Let’s Sing’ is back every Thursday morning at Arus Lorcain. Sing a variety of songs – old and new – in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere for just €5 a week.

The Arklow Craft Fair takes place at the Bridgewater Shopping Center from noon to 6 p.m. on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month.

Over 500 children have signed up for Summer Stars at Arklow Library – check out all the stars in our window. It’s not too late to have fun. Research shows that children who read during the summer maintain their reading skills and return to school better prepared for the new school year.

Welcome to the support group for Ukrainians (adults).

The group is open at Arklow Public Library from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Thursdays and is designed to provide psychological support and socialize to those in need.
