80 students graduate from the first bachelor’s degree in hotel operations management in Egypt


Helwan University, Marriott International and the Professional Development Foundation announced that 80 students had graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hotel operations management, the first of its kind in Egypt.

Tahseen Hotel Training Program celebrated its first promotion in Egypt. The program was developed by Marriott International in partnership with Helwan University and the Professional Development Foundation.

The company created the One Egypt Curriculum in 2018 to support its commitment to further improve tourism education in the country. The inaugural class included 80 students who had just completed the degree.

Dean of Helwan University, Soha Abdel Wahab, said that “The Bachelor of Hotel Operations Management is the only program in Egypt that connects both academic studies and experience in a professional environment. This program provides highly skilled talent who is ready to work and make a valuable contribution to the hospitality industry.

For her part, Satya Anand, Marriott International’s President for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said, “Tahseen is focused on providing young people with the skills and experience necessary to grow and thrive in the hospitality industry and be part of the success. of the Egyptian travel and tourism sector. As a company, we remain committed to improving tourism education in Egypt and developing the next wave of exciting and impactful local hospitality leaders in the country.

Tahseen was launched in 2018 in partnership with Helwan University and the Professional Development Foundation to focus on accelerating the next generation of hospitality leaders by providing first-hand industry experience and a springboard to launch successful careers in hospitality.

In 2019, the program received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt and achieved baccalaureate accreditation. Today, the bachelor’s degree in hotel operations management is earned after completing a four-year program divided into one year of college, followed by three years comprising 16 weeks each of classroom learning and 32 weeks each on-site training at Marriott International properties. in the country.

Upon completion of the program, Marriott International plans to offer graduates full-time positions within its properties in Egypt in functions such as front desk, reservations, sales, events, marketing, human resources, food and beverages, housekeeping and finances. .

Looking ahead, Tahseen has nearly 100 students currently enrolled who are expected to complete their bachelor’s degree in the coming years. The program also plans to welcome more than 50 new students this year.

Tahseen is an integral part of Marriott International’s strategy in Egypt, where the company’s current portfolio includes 18 properties with over 7,000 rooms across eight brands. The company currently has over 9,000 Egyptian nationals employed in its portfolio, representing 99% of its workforce in the country.
