The three hotels in City of Dreams Manila – Nüwa Manila, Nobu Hotel and Hyatt Regency Manila – recently won the 2022 Southeast Asian Nations Green Hotel Award at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cambodia. The awards, now in their 14th year, recognize those in the hospitality industry who practice and promote sustainable tourism through environmentally responsible principles, reduced resource consumption and the involvement of the local community.
The trio of hotels has been cited for its many green initiatives focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Not only is the City of Dreams the first integrated resort in the country to install solar panels, but its water conservation projects include reusing treated gray water as well as reducing plastic waste through the replacement of plastic bottles. for single use in their hotel rooms. Customers now find convenient, reusable and refillable pump bottles in their place.
The above efforts are just three of several sustainable initiatives that contribute to City of Dreams’ goal of being a carbon-neutral, zero-waste resort by 2030.
Other accolades for the Philippines include the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award, given to Baguio City and Ilagan. Green Hotel Award recipients are recognized for adhering to the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard, a certification process that aims to meet a set of 11 criteria that promote sustainable tourism practices. These include the use of green products; solid waste management; energetic efficiency; water efficiency; air quality management (indoor and outdoor); noise pollution control; wastewater treatment and management; and managing the disposal of toxic and chemical substances.
